Discover your Internet speed with the new version of SIMET

Internet Traffic Measurement System (SIMET), a tool that measures Internet speed, has been updated and is more efficient. The online platform evaluates the connection through tests and the performance of downloads and uploads on your data packages, both on mobile and PC. The new tool also maps the efficiency of each provider, which can be useful to find out which company has the best service in your area.

SIMET was developed by the Information and Coordination Center of Ponto BR (NIC.br) responsible for coordinating the registration and names of Brazilian domains.

Internet speed test: see websites and apps to measure the connection

To access the tool, simply go to the website (beta.simet.nic.br) and click the “Measure” button in the center of the interface. SIMET performs a complete measurement by testing, in addition to speed, the parameters of packet loss (percentage of messages sent over the network that do not reach their destination), latency or RTT (round trip time- the time it takes for a message to go to a destination and back), and jitter (variation in the delay of sequential message transmission).

Packet loss, latency, and jitter are parameters measured by SIMET using Chrome, and users can also use the browser on Android, such as tablets and smartphones, in addition to computers, to test the performance of the connection.

According to Milton Kashiwakura, Director of Special Projects and Development at NIC.br, users should pay attention to the speed of their network traffic, as "packet loss leads to a significant degradation of service, especially during peak hours."
