Data loss is the top concern of IT managers in Brazil

Research released last Wednesday (17th) reveals that 77.5% of IT managers in Brazil cite cyberattacks as their biggest concern. The survey, titled The Impossible Puzzle of Cybersecurity, also indicates that business damage and cost (time and money) are other major concerns for these professionals, mentioned by 66% and 21% of them, respectively. Furthermore, the study, which interviewed 3,100 security managers from 12 different countries, including 200 executives from Brazil, shows that managing cybersecurity occupies approximately 28% of the IT team's time in the country. Attack Vectors The research also reveals that, in Brazil alone, 33% of analyzed attacks begin with fake emails, 30% via the web with fake or malicious websites, 22% through downloaded software, and 13% via USB devices, such as pen drives and even keyboards. Although it may seem like an old practice, attacks using USB devices are still very common, especially in Brazil, where compromised pen drives can be purchased at newsstands, from street vendors, and over the internet. There are cases of keyboards infected with keylogger viruses that record everything a user types and send it to the attacker, in addition to other types of illegal applications that can be installed on a USB keyboard. Hackers alter the internal system of the keyboards, which, when connected to the computer via USB cable, function the same way as an infected pen drive. About 20% of the IT managers surveyed say they have no idea how they were invaded or what possible data was stolen during the attack.
